Scriptural Reference:
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” — Hebrews 12:2
Our Dew of Heaven:
This week’s Dew of Heaven invites us to reflect on the profound phrase: “Looking unto Jesus.” In the New American Standard Version, this is beautifully rendered as “fixing our eyes on Jesus.” It is far more than a casual glance; it is an intentional, unwavering focus. We are called to look away from all distractions and fix our gaze on Jesus, who is our inspiration, guide, and ultimate example.
In the original Greek, the word implies a deliberate turning away from other things and a continuous, steadfast focus on Him. Simply put, it means to fix our eyes solely on Jesus.
When we look unto Jesus, we receive life, light, guidance, encouragement, and joy. As Psalm 34:5 declares: “They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.”
Beholding Jesus in the Word
When we study and meditate on the Word of God, we are fixing our gaze on Jesus, who has the power to transform our lives. What we focus on shapes who we become. Scripture affirms this in 2 Corinthians 3:18: “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory.”
James 1:25 also describes the blessing that comes from looking into the perfect law of liberty and living it out. By beholding His truth, we are conformed to His image, aligning our lives with His will.
The Rewards of Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus
Through intimacy with Jesus, we gain access to His:
- Presence
- Power
- Strength
This connection brings us into oneness with Him: “He that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” — 1 Corinthians 6:17
Concluding Thoughts
- Seek to Know Him: Pursue a deeper relationship with Jesus, as Paul desired: “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings.” — Philippians 3:10
- Fix Your Eyes on Him: Let Jesus empower you to run the race of life with endurance, faith, and victory.
By keeping our gaze fixed on Jesus, we are transformed and equipped to live lives that reflect His glory. Let us never cease to look unto Him who is ever looking upon us.
Declaration:
I declare that the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. I set my gaze on him day and night. I am walking in power. I am walking in miracles and enjoying the presence of God in Jesus’ name. Amen.
